Last Saturday, 25 July 2026, I visited De Bronckhorst Distillery with my close friend Piet. What a wonderful experience is was. Founder and owner Erik Legters and his team work with real passion on an exceptional product. The craftmanship, down-to-earth approach, and love of grain and distilling are all reflected in the whisky sold under the Dahomey name. Our tour was led by Rita- and what a passion and expertise she has! With great enthusiasm, she told us about Dahomey Single Estate Dutch Whisky. The Dahomey cows fertilise the land, after which the barley grows and ripens. At De Bronckhorst, everything takes place on the estate itself, which is why it may be called Single Estate. From harvesting, brewing, distilling, and maturation, everything happens on their own estate. A truly artisanal whisky, in other words. Rita took us through the distillery, and what became very clear from her enthusiastic and engaging story was that every part of the process is founded on passion and expertise. The aim is to create a product that is truly right, and that is clearly visible. Superb craftmanship, patience, dedication, and no mass production, but a whisky based on rare grains. Rita let us taste these delicious whiskies, and it was a real pleasure. In short, it is absolutely worth making the trip to the Achterhoek- and of course buying and tasting Dahomey whisky.
